Who we are
Civic Engine Ltd runs civic-engine.com and the PolicyBox platform. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 16690501, and we are responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at ryan@civic-engine.com.
When you visit this website
When you open our home page, we record:
- the date and time of the visit;
- your IP address, and the network and country it belongs to. We look these up in the public internet registries and in reverse DNS: for an office network this can name the organisation, and for a home or mobile connection it names the internet provider;
- the page you opened, and the website that sent you here when your browser shares it;
- your browser's identifying string (its user agent).
We use this to understand how many people visit and where they come from, and to keep the site secure. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running and protecting our website. We keep these records for 90 days and then delete them.
We do not use cookies or any other storage on your device for this, and we do not follow you to other websites. To look up the network, we send the IP address to the public internet registries; we do not sell the records or pass them to anyone else.
Our web server also keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. They are deleted after 14 days.
This website's fonts are provided by Google Fonts, so your browser also connects to Google, which receives your IP address. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
If you have a PolicyBox account
We record your sign-ins, sign-outs and failed sign-in attempts (the account name, the time and the IP address), and how you use the platform, to keep accounts secure and to support you. Signing in uses cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in. We keep these records while your account exists, and we will delete them if you ask. Password emails are sent through an email relay service.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it. Write to ryan@civic-engine.com. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
